On Wednesday, the 12th of August 2009, the Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG Research Department represented by Sabine Kruse and Klaus Küper handed over to the OZEANEUM in Stralsund a detailed 1:50 scale model of the modern research vessel MARIA S. MERIAN. This model, built by the modeller Juergen Oltmann on the basis of original contruction plans, will be essential part of the new permanent exhibition ‘Research and Resources of the Seas’, which will be opened in 2010.
Mr. Andreas Tanschus, the alternate director of the German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund, and the research associate and curator in charge, Mr. Michael Maeuslein were pleased to receive the impressing model and gave their thanks to Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG for supporting the museum. Briese Schiffahrts GmbH & Co. KG (Research Department) is responsible for the management of RV Maria S. Merian. At the moment the vessel is the most modern research vessel in Germany.
The Ozeaneum is one of the most popular museums in nothern Germany. Since its opening on the 11th of July 2008 already more than 1 million people visited the museum.
